Work Philosophy

In the event of attaining a career, work ethics and personal expectations must be established. As an aspiring Registered Nurse, I have personally established my own. As an employee, I find that selflessness is the key to success. Focusing on what is best for the customer or patient, rather than what will be the easier and more convenient route for myself, has and will continue to positively impact my work ethic. Throughout my experience in the hospital, I have come to learn that if I give my patient my entire effort and that if the patient is comfortable and content, my job will become much more facile. A personal relationship will be built between the patient/customer and I if I treat them with respect. This is very important in the medical field because once a personal relationship is built between the patient and the employee, the patient will be much more cooperative and allow for you to do what is better for their health (even if it isn’t exactly what is comfortable for the patient at the moment). In the end, the patient will gain trust, which is the goal in any medical career.

Not only will personal relationships make interactions with the patient easier, but it will also make interactions with the patient’s family easier. In the hospital setting, families tend to be just as important as the patient. Families are the ones who evaluate every move that you make when it comes to their family members, making them your biggest critic. Once you treat the family members as if they are a part of the entire process and prove to them that their loved one is your main priority (even if it requires taking the hard route and requires you to go out of your way), they will begin to trust you and trust your instincts when it comes to the patient. Just as with the patients themselves, establishing trust between the family members and yourself is the goal in a medical care

Ultimately, selflessness will lead to a personal relationship between the patient and I, and a personal relationship will lead to earned trust from the patient. These could not be attained without treating customers/patients with complete and total respect. These attained traits are important in any career and will always be what I strive for in a professional environment.
