Just People
Just People is an organization that provides support services to adults with developmental disabilities. Just People provides services from "day trips" to housing to jobs. Just People gives adults, with disabilities, the opportunity to socialize with and contribute to their community.
I had the opportunity to provide services to this phenomenal organization. During my time with Just People, I created bonds with the residents and learned about their life stories and life struggles.
Backpack Love
Backpack Love is an organization that provides meals for financially unstable students during the weekend. Backpack Love receives shipments of food, unpacks the shipments, and loads them into backpacks. At the end of each week, a student is sent home with the backpack (making the scenario less obvious) that provides sufficient meals for their families.
I had the opportunity to unpack food (from shipments) and prepare it to be stuffed in the backpacks. I also broke down boxes from shipments.
Shamrock Shuffle 5k
The Shamrock Shuffle is an annual 5k that is orchestrated by Honors Work Based Learning, a cohort that is associated with my internship program. My morning cohort and I worked together to plan how the race would play out, recruit runners, and recruit businesses to sponsor the event. On the day of the 5k I helped with setting up, leading runners to the appropriate place, and handing out t-shirts.
All profits went to the Honors Work Based Learning program to allow for an annual scholarship to be given to a cohort student.
Elementary School Field Day
Elementary School field day is a time for students to work together to complete relays. This day requires a great amount of planning setting up, and control. Stations must be run, classes must be kept in order, and organization must be present.
I had the opportunity to help control classes as the day went along. I made sure that students understood the rules, played the games fairly, and had a great time! I have been in control of many stations and I have been put in charge of multiple classes.
